[MIXTAPE] DOWNLOAD :: J.Period, John Legend & The Roots – ‘Wake Up! Radio’ [ft. Common, Q-Tip, Nneka, K'NANN, Blu + MORE!]

February 11, 2011

From J.Period:

In anticipation of an award-winning evening for John Legend & The Roots’ WAKE UP! album (nominated for 5 Grammys at Sunday’s 2011 Grammy Awards), J.Period & Truelements Music are pleased to present WAKE UP! RADIO – a star-studded mixtape collaboration with Columbia Records’ multi-platinum singing sensation, and the hardest working Late Night band on the planet!

Hosted by The Roots’ own Black Thought, WAKE UP! RADIO pays tribute to the legacy of soul music that paved the way for WAKE UP! and imagines a world where mainstream radio transmits music with a message. Employing an all-star cast of musical contemporaries (including John Legend & The Roots themselves), J.Period dissects, remixes and rebuilds the original recording sessions from the WAKE UP! album in an unprecedented manner, defying the conventional wisdom of what a “mixtape” can be—producing a full-fledged remix album in the process. The result is a treasure trove of powerful new music, produced and remixed exclusively by J.Period for WAKE UP! RADIO …

Adding to the historic nature of this mixtape release, J.Period will also release an exclusive Digital 12” on Tuesday, February 15, featuring a history-making collaboration between John Legend, Black Thought of The Roots, and hip hop luminary, Rakim. The track, entitled “In the Ghetto (Wake Up!)”, produced by J.Period, is an homage to the Eric B. & Rakim classic “In The Ghetto”—which hearkens back to a time when hip hop and social messages went hand in hand.

Additional featured guests on WAKE UP! RADIO include Common, Q-Tip, Late Night host Jimmy Fallon, Nigerian songstress Nneka, Somali sensation K’NAAN, rising star Blu, Def Poet Mayda Del Valle and more, in addition to never-before-heard music from Black Thought and John Legend. Also look out for J.Period’s history-making “Our Generation” Remix, reuniting hip hop legends Pete Rock & CL Smooth, which was originally released online in November, and is also featured on WAKE UP! RADIO.

Final Fantasy x Q-Tip – “CN Tower” (Tor Remix)

February 2, 2010

According to Tor’s myspace blog:

“Just put the finishing touches on a one-off remix of a Final Fantasy track with some lyrics from the legendary Q-Tip.“

The track blends the two artists together beautifully. I have included the mp3 for  “The CN Tower Can Work It Out” AND the instrumentals to the track as well.

MP3 :: Blakroc – “Hope You’re Happy” ft. Billy Danze, Nicole Wray, Q-TIP

November 19, 2009

Yet another Blakroc jam as surfaced onto the interwebs. If you search hard enough, you can find the whole album out there but you should probably PRE-ORDER the damn thing instead! It is out in a week!

Anyway, the track is called “Hope You’re Happy” and is a short track with Q-Tip and Billy Danze each taking a verse, Nicole Wray adding some gorgeous backing vocals, and the Black Keys backing the whole thing up with some crying bluesy guitar and solid drums. Anyone else think Q-Tip’s verse is kinda choppy? I don’t know .. the video of his recording the verse didn’t sit well with me at the time i viewed it, and listening to the actual result is equally disappointing.

Morning News SmackDown 4.1

April 1, 2009

tribeNas and Michael Rappaport have teamed up to make a documentary about A Tribe Called Quest.  Q-Tip gave footage from the film his blessing last night as he tweeted: “… I’m not just saying it its FUCKING AMAZING!!! Can’t wait for yall to see this !”.  Nas is producing and Rappaport directs.  This isn’t the first time Mike has collabo’d with a prominent member of the hip hop community.

29_kanye_lglIn other  hip hop-film crossover news, Kanye West and Spike Jonze are back together again, this time working on a fifteen minute long “Thriller style” short film for Yeezy’s song “See You In My Nightmares”.  I’m not familiar with the song because I refused to buy 808′s…but I’m expecting this to not be like Thriller at all.

nwaApparently Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Eazy-E’s widow will be producing a film about NWA called Straight Outta Compton.  Paste Magazine reports the film is going to be a biopic in the same vein as Notorious.  Wouldn’t this technically be an autobiopic?

steve-martin-20060207-107160What’s that?  You’re tired of movie news?  You want some news that’s actually about music?  Steve Martin made a banjo record.  You can read about it here.  How’s that for music news?

The Standard

The Standard

Common and Q-Tip have announced they are forming a 2 man rap group called “The Standard.” They supposedly have not begun recording nor set any kind of release date, and are so far just bouncing ideas and sounds off of each other. The promise of two rappers of this caliber teaming up to make music that will certainly be 100-150 times better than the garbage currently heard on rap radio is all kinds of titillating.

Q-Tip Featuring Prince

January 17, 2009

Q-Tip rips the mic and slowly a small, impish man approaches the guitarist and jacks him for his instrument. It’s Prince. He drops a solo before exiting.

Get Tip’s new album The Renaissance. It’s superdope.
