Prince brought his touring band, the New Power Generation, to the Lopez stage earlier this week, and debuted a new track titled “Lay Down.” If you had any doubts towards the new music coming from the almighty purple one, then let “Lay Down” put those fears to rest.

The names of bands signing in support of the upcoming Record Store Day keep getting bigger. The Derek Trucks Band has announced they will release a five track live EP called Already Live that will only be available at participating Record Stores on April 18th. The EP will include live versions of I Know, Get What You Deserve, I Dont Got Over, I’ll Find My Way, and My Favorite Things. You can click here for a list of participating shops.
Crosby Stills and Nash have announced they’ll be releasing an album of demos aptly titled Crosby Stills & Nash Demos. The album will be primarily comprised of early versions of tracks from the members’ various solo albums. The album is set to be released June 2nd. The song Valentina off Prince’s new album MPLSoUND is garnering quite a bit of attention on these interweb airwaves. In the song Prince sings Hey Valentina, tell you mama she should give me a call/When she gets tired of running after you down the hall/And she’s all worn out from those late night feedings/And she’s ready for another Rock N Roll Meeting. Apparently “Valentina” is Selma Hayek’s daughter’s name. Hayek directed the video for Pince’s 2005 song “Te Amo Corazon”. Is it appropriate for a grown man to be propositioning a woman in a song directed at her daughter? Regardless, I’m sure Prince and Selma Hayek are having freaky sex right now.

My thoughts:
1. The stage set up is absolutely hilarious … whoever decided that jellyfish and Prince looking like the Prince of Persia in the background was a good idea is a genius. So cheesy yet so effective … i think ill spend the weekend reinventing myself with aquatic animals and capes.
2. I have never heard Prince sound so much like Kat Williams
3. Prince has waited a long time to get on national TV and say “the white house is now black.” I would have preferred the James Brown “Say It Loud .. Im Black and Im Proud” but thats just me ..
4. Nice AIG reference .. I hear Prince hid all his money at the bottom of Lake Minnetonka

In what will eventually be known as the most powerful tandem in music history, Prince has announced a deal with Target to release three albums this year. Two of the albums, “LOtUSFLOWER” and “MPLSoUND”, will be solo projects, while the third will be a project with Bria Valente.
UPDATE: The three albums will be bundled and will cost a total of $11.99. Clearly Prince understands it’s a tough economy out there.
MusicNewsNet is reporting Neil Young has confirmed April 6th as the release date for his new album ‘Fork in The Road’. The first single ‘Johnny Magic’ will be released on March 23rd. Click that MusicNewsNet link for a full track list.
With their new album No Line on the Horizon dropping today, U2 has announced plans to release a second album this year. The New York Times reports the new album is taken from the same studio sessions, but will be a bit more mellow. In other U2 news, they’ve announced another show in Boston, and NYC plans to name a street (53rd and Broadway….right where Letterman is filmed)after them. Too much U2 news lately, I was kind of hoping it would slow down after their album dropped.
Jambase is reporting that Sublime band members recently played their first show since 1996 under the name Sublime. Apparently some guy named Rome sang and played guitar for the band. You can see videos of the band by following that Jambase link.
