Music for Perfect People

During this year’s CMJ in NYC, Portugal. The Man stopped by The Ace Hotel for a semi-acoustic performance of a handful of tracks. In the interview portion, Zach Carothers and Ryan Neighbors discussed where the name for their latest LP In The Mountain, In The Cloud  came from, how their acoustic performances are different from their electric performances, along with some other questions pertaining to the band’s move from Alaska to Portland, and when they knew they “made it.”

Early this morning, Portugal. The Man appeared on Last Call with Carson Daly for an interview and a performance of the first two tracks from their latest effort In The Mountain, In The Cloud.

Additionally, we have some live footage of PTM performing their b-side “The Devil,” along with a very energetic rendition of “Helter Skelter.”

Earlier today, Portugal. The Man premiered their video for the In The Mountain In The Cloud single “So American.”  For the most part, the video features footage of the band enjoying a day at the beach, and a beautiful, backyard bonfire.

On July 19th, Portugal. The Man will release their latest effort, and Atlantic Record debut, In The Mountain, In The Cloud. In the past, we have teased the teasers, and posted the pre-order information, but, now we have the band’s latest video, from cinematographer Michael Ragen, for the tracks “Sleep Forever,” and “Got It All (This Can’t Be Living Now.)”

While the video made an appearance before each of Portugal. The Man’s recent tour dates, IFC has now premiered the video for those who were not in attendance. The video shows lead singer/guitarist John Gourley on a dogsledding trip through his native Alaska, until the dogs become lost, and Gourley is left to find his way out of the wilderness. What stuck with me most from this video is the sound that come from Gourley as he screams for help .. The whole idea of being lost in a frozen land, with nothing but a gun, should certainly make you uncomfortable, but the beautiful music that accompanies the video will ease those feelings, and you’ll be reminded that everything is going to be alright.

Earlier today, Portugal. The Man posted a teaser video for a new track titled “Once Was One.” After hearing this 30 second snippet of the track, along with a handful of videos of the band performing three other new songs (check ‘em out here, and here,) I can definitely say that I am quite eager to hear PTM’s upcoming release.

It appears that I, along with the fine folks over at You Ain’t No Picasso, share similar beliefs in regards to Portugal. The Man‘s upcoming, yet to be titled, release. We know that the album is finished, but when will we get to hear it? Should we listen to tracks that are being debuted during live shows or should we wait to hear the final product in its entirety?

Regardless of how you answered any of those questions, Portugal. The Man have, in fact, debuted a new track titled “Senseless,” which furthers our belief that the upcoming release is going to be another wonderful showing of music from the Portland by way of Alaska band. Additionally, we have heard rumors of a late summer release for the upcoming album. ENJOY!
