BAND TO WATCH :: Le Butcherettes
July 2, 2010
I have been sitting on this post for quite some time and am FINALLY able to shed some light on a band who deserves your attention. The underground Mexican garage + punk scene is certainly something I am not known for diving into on a regular basis but the stage antics and music of Le Butcherettes might make me change my mind. Not only has the group caught the eye of Jack White when he chose to have them open for the Dead Weather on Mexican tour stops, but they have also opened for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs AND famed producer/guitarist, of The Mars Volta, Omar Rodríguez-López has even decided to produce their first LP Sin, Sin, Sin.
For now, you can get a taste of Le Butcherettes’ Kiss & Kill EP over at the group’s bandcamp page (I just gave it a relisten. Short, sweet, and awesome.) If that doesn’t tickle your fancy enough, there is a full audio stream from their performance at this year’s Sonar festival in Barcelona below along with a video of some concert footage and words from the band’s founder and frontwoman Teri Gender Bender. Enjoy the erotic gore, dancing, and of course … music.
