Joaquin Phoenix pursues career in Hip-Hip, talks about it with Letterman (sort of)

February 12, 2009

You have probably heard the rumors.  Welp, they aren’t just rumors . . . Joaquin Phoenix has claimed that he will quit acting and pursue a career in music, specifically in hip-hop.  Phoenix actually got considerable praise for his musical talent performing as Johnny Cash in the film Walk the Line.  Despite that success, I think we can all agree that hip-hop is a completely different beast.  I don’t know if I would go as far as to naysay the man’s endeavors because – oh what the hell, I would never hold anything back from the beloved readers of Music for Perfect People.  I am indeed indefinitely nay-saying Joaquin Phoenix’s hip-hop campaign.  In the words of David Letterman, I think Phoenix is “drunk off warm Pepsi.”  I have not thoroughly listened to the man rap, but I do have a couple of youtube clips to defend my nay-saying.  As pathetic as the situation seems (and I say pathetic because I truly have enjoyed Joaquin’s acting and think it is a sad waste of ability for him to quit now), I must admit that I am loving the twisted humor that results from a huge Hollywood profile going off the wall like this.  I’ll let the videos speak for themselves:

First, let’s listen in on Joaquin doing his rapping thing:

 Secondly, let’s check out the man’s stage moves . . . geeheehee:

Thirdly, let us take a quick peek at the traditional and cheesy Joaquin Phoenix of yesteryear on The David Letterman Show:

Finally, JP went on Letterman last night (2/11/09).  It was nothing short of hilarious:

I’m really interested to see how this will all unfold☻
