Music for Perfect People

During this year’s CMJ in NYC, Portugal. The Man stopped by The Ace Hotel for a semi-acoustic performance of a handful of tracks. In the interview portion, Zach Carothers and Ryan Neighbors discussed where the name for their latest LP In The Mountain, In The Cloud  came from, how their acoustic performances are different from their electric performances, along with some other questions pertaining to the band’s move from Alaska to Portland, and when they knew they “made it.”

Seattle’s Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground have released their second effort Introducing… digitally and to celebrate, the group performed a set for KEXP. Included in their performance were the tracks “Diggin,” “Oh Lord, I Hate You California,” “World’s Entire,” and “You Motherfuckers.” As KEXP stated, Kay Kay plays “some swanky orchestral psych pop.”

Yesterday, Yellow Ostrich, aka Alex Schaaf and friends, recorded a live set for KEXP. Prior to the performance,  Alex said that “for the majority of you who are not from NYC, this will be your first chance to hear what we sound like live.  Whether or not that is a good thing remains to be seen, but we hope to pleasure your ears with our midday songs.”

The set included the tracks “Daughter,” “Ha Ha Ha Oh Ho Ho,” “Mary,” and “Whale.” If you would like to hear the original tracks as they appear on Yellow Ostrich’s album The Mistress, you can download/stream them over at bandcamp.

Last night, The Decemberists stopped by Conan to perform their latest single, “Down By The Water,” off their upcoming release The King Is Dead. Don’t forget that we previously posted a teaser for the new album and a download for “Down By The Water.”

In addition, we have video footage of Colin Meloy performing another new track, “Rise To Me,” live from the Ace Hotel NYC during the 2010 CMJ Music Marathon.

The Wild Orchid Children released their debut album The Wild Orchid Children Are Alexander Supertramp last week and since then, their high-energy, psychedelic jams have constantly been blasting through our speakers.

To celebrate the release, WOC visited KEXP and recorded a live set, which featured the tracks “Gasoline Rainbows (Jesus Is A Black Man),” “Martha Washington Goes To War,” “Peyote Coyote,” and “Tree Of Knowledge.”

After watching Nosaj Thing lay some goodness on KEXP (video below,) I quickly purchased his album The Drift, which was released at some point last summer (2009 for those counting.) His smooth style as a beatmaker and downtempo rhythms really grabbed my attention as I have always been a fan of electronic  instrumental albums.

According to Last.Fm:
