Music for Perfect People

Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington have recently joined forces under the name DARKSIDE to release a self-titled EP through Jaar’s label Clown and Sunset. After seeing the EP pop up on Gorilla vs. Bear, and discussing the EP and how it should be pressed on vinyl with the folks over at I Guess I’m Floating, I can say that this is one of the “must listen” EPs of 2011.

It is very rare that I listen to EP on repeat over and over again for a day or two, but the DARKSIDE EP is definitely an exception. Overall, the EP has an airy feel, which gives Jaar and Harrington some room to breath with their creation. The guitars are delicate, the vocals are haunting, and the bass rhythms create an instant groove that you cannot get out of until three tracks come to their end.

Take a listen to the EP below, and make sure to grab a copy for $5 over at Clown and Sunset. Hopefully the EP gets a release on vinyl as my record player needs to experience this music just as much as you do. Enjoy!

Lissi Dancefloor Disaster, the experimental art pop duo hailing from Uppsala, Sweden, have released their latest EP As We Plz, which features an excellent blend of dance-pop. Stream the EP below, and keep an ear out for our favorite track “Glowing Hearts.”

Earlier this month, we posted about the singles “16 Years” and “Don’t Move,” which will be featured on Phantogram‘s forthcoming mini-LP Nightlife. While hearing two of the six tracks from Nightlife held us over for a short while, we are pleased to announce that the wait is over as the band has now included a stream of the entire EP over on their facebook page.

Late last week, Skrillex announced that he would be releasing 3 new tracks, along with 4 remixes of his highly popular “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites,” on the appropriately titled More Monsters and Sprites EP. On March 29th, Broken Bells (aka James Mercer and Danger Mouse) will release their Meyrin Fields EP, which serves as a follow-up to last year’s self-titled debut. Apparently, the four tracks on the EP were recorded at the same as the full-length, but they must not have fit in well with the other material.

Regardless, we have “Windows” and the title track “Meyrin Fields” for you to check out. Currently, you can pre-order the Meyrin Fields EP here.

Last year, Eskmo released his self-titled album on Ninja Tune, which happened to be one of our top listens of 2010 (even though it didn’t make the top 20 list.) Regardless, Eskmo has now released an EP that features ambient reworks of all the tracks from last year’s effort. Grab a listen below and download here.

Beth Ditto is not only the the iconic frontwoman of the band Gossip, but she is also a solo artist who is currently planning the release of an EP filled with the dancefloor accessible, psychedelic disco beats of Simian Mobile Disco.

While the EP won’t officially be released until March 8th, we currently have a preview for you to wet your whistle on.

Crooked Bars are a four-piece group hailing from Portland, Oregon who have recently released the 5 track EP, which is currently available for stream/download through bandcamp. Building off the smooth vocals of lead singer Joe Bates, Crooked Bars manage to blend many different styles of music, including indie rock, soul, country, afropop and jazz, into a lovely cohesive sound. Listen to the EP below and help spread the word of Crooked Bars as they aren’t looking to make any cash off of this release. They just want you to listen. Easy enough right?
