On July 5th, Steven Jess Borth II will release Haven, his debut album under the CHLLNGR moniker. With a focus on thick, dubbed-out, R&B tracks, Haven is certainly an album that will be getting a large amount of listening time this summer. In case you don’t believe us, check out the recently released video for “Ask For,” which is the first single off of Haven.

On May 17th, Planningtorock will release her album W through DFA Records. The beauty of Planningtorock’s music is that it forces you to feel something. Previously, we brought you the track “Doorway”, which personally makes me a tad nervous, but not because of the dark, emotional sound, or the vocal effects. Rather, it is the slow, yet grinding pace that the beat follows that creates a sense of anxiety. This, of course, is a good thing. Some healthy anxiety will remind you that you’re alive!
As if “Doorway” wasn’t a monster on its own, Brooklyn’s CREEP have taken the track under their wing and created a wonderful remix, which only adds to darkness that I previously mentioned.

CREEP have become known for their dark, hazy, witchhouse sound, and their recent remix of She Wants Revenge‘s single “Take The World” certainly continues on with this trend. Check it out below ..

As exemplified by the single “Beat and The Pulse,” Austra’s sound seems to be a blend of majestic, dark pop that also has a heavy amount of danceability.

If you can’t hold out until February 7th for the release of Computers and Blues, the final album from Mike Skinner under The Streets moniker, then this post is for you. According to the description of the album on The Streets website, you can expect “45 minutes of 130 bpm style straight spittin,” which is dark and futuristic. The description goes on further to say that Computers and Blues is filled with “dancing music to drink tea to,” and is “a ravey album album that bludgeons you over the head with its stick of 1988 Romford, Blackpool and Philadelphia rock.” Check it out for yourself below ..

I suppose I can see the appeal to the movie The Social Network although I bet I don’t ever see it. Facebook was an awesome idea back in college when it was a young social networking site geared towards connecting college peers. At this point, however, I have graduated college, moved on to other ventures in life and use Facebook for the purpose of whoring out my website and it’s posts .. that’s about it. Pictures are no longer public, people worry about what others can see about them, and the original idea of Facebook seems to have gotten a bit out of hand. Whether you decide to see the movie or not (apparently it has gotten some positive reviews as you will see below,) the soundtrack to the film is something to note.

As previously reported, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor did indeed score David Fincher‘s The Social Network. Working with The Book of Eli‘s Atticus Ross, we have the first proof of that score as Sony just launched the official site for The Social Network. /Film has gathered the 46 new photos from the site if you want to check them out.
Reznor wasn’t kidding when he said it was “dark.” The score is minimal and brooding. I can’t wait to see how it fits into the film. If you haven’t already seen, Peter Travers said it was “the movie of the year that also brilliantly defines the decade.” Scott Foundas also had an extremely positive first review.
