From Stones Throw:

The full details (spoken when I was hella young & my voice was a tad higher) are laid over a Stanley Clarke instrumental, then…the groove me & the great Leon Sylvers III did, kicks in soon after. It was recorded in my bedroom in Pasadena, CA.

The song never made it to Atlantic Starr’s album, but was still a good learning experience, recording w/ 1 of my 1st musical mentors: Leon Sylvers III.

The song briefly appeared on a hand full of cassette tapes I made in 1991 called: “Damon – My Early Works (’88-’90)” which I only gave a few friends to in my neighborhood. I still have the tape with the original homemade artwork done at Kinko’s. Hilarious!

This tune will be ‘mastered’ later, for inclusion on: Adolescent Funk, Vol. 2. Stay tuned & I appreciate U vibin’ with me.

“Just….don’t give up. That’s it & that’s all”.

There is nothing better than waking up in the morning to find that Gorilla vs. Bear has premiered a new track from Nite Jewel and Dam-Funk titled “It Goes Through Your Head”. In January 2011, Stones Throw Records will be releasing an anthology of rare & unreleased 1982-1986 recordings from Tony Cook, The J.B.’s drummer and creator of “the Granddaddy of all House Records”. Below, we have the track “What’s On Your Mind,” which was originally recorded in the 80′s and is now being released with vocals by Dam Funk.

From All City:

Number 7 in the series showcasing the sound of two thirds of the MasterBlaster group – Dam Funk & ComputerJay. The ubiquitious Dam Funk needs little introduction. He’s definitely played at a town near you on multiple occasions in the last few years and still has time for his weekly throwdown – Funkmosphere- in Culver City keeping his hood pass most definitely intact. He gives us two tracks here – the first a delicious groover ‘Night Stroll’ and the second a more frenetic workout – ‘3012 Luv Affair’. Flipping over Computer Jay kicks off in an almost ESG-esque vein with ‘Phantom’ following with two further tracks of heavy drums and an array of analog sounds. In keeping with much of the series Jay’s side blends as one packing in a whole heap to his ten minutes. As ever it’s held together by B+ photo jacket.
