On March 6, 2012, Philly’s folk-rock trio Good Old War will release their third full-length Come Back as Rain through Sargent House. Since the debut of his Your Floor Is Now A Tree LP a few months back, AIMES (aka Aman Ellis) has released a number of remixes, bootlegs, and other various edits, which all showcase his throwback space disco vibe. On their latest single “The Unknown Faces at Father James Park”, the Phenomenal Handclap Band continue to showcase their blend of psych, soul, and disco.

According to PHB:

“As a teenager, Father James Park was the local park where my friends and I were able to go and not be bothered by our parents or other authority figures. We used to meet there as often as possible to hang out and clear our minds, and since there were no adults around, it also became the place we’d go to expand our minds. The Unknown Faces at Father James Park is about the inherent peer pressure, confusion, and tumultuous times that teenagers have.
For the video, we thought the best way to reflect this subject matter would be to edit together found footage along the lines of the various PSA’s  we were subjected to in high school. They were so humorless and terrifying at the time, but looking back, it was a lot of unnecessary warning against what turned out to be healthy experimentation.”

For volume one of their Vicious Circles EP, Hand Drawn Dracula has brought together Black Moth Super Rainbow, Holy Fuck, and Shugo Tokumaru‘s interpretations of each other’s work. On Decmeber 9th, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will release their 37-track soundtrack for ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’, which is in theaters December 21st. From the 3 hour soundtrack, Reznor and Ross are currently offering a 6-track sampler, which clocks in around 35 minutes, and features the tracks “Hidden In Snow”, “People Lie All The Time”, “What If We Could?”, “Oraculum”, “Please Take Your Hand Away”, and “Under The Midnight Sun.” To recieve the sampler, just enter your e-mail below.

Additionally, Reznor and Karen O. (of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) recorded a cover of Led Zeppelin‘s single “Immigrant Song”, which appears as the opening track on ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ soundtrack. The cover is now available through iTunes, and can be heard in full below.

Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington have recently joined forces under the name DARKSIDE to release a self-titled EP through Jaar’s label Clown and Sunset. After seeing the EP pop up on Gorilla vs. Bear, and discussing the EP and how it should be pressed on vinyl with the folks over at I Guess I’m Floating, I can say that this is one of the “must listen” EPs of 2011.

It is very rare that I listen to EP on repeat over and over again for a day or two, but the DARKSIDE EP is definitely an exception. Overall, the EP has an airy feel, which gives Jaar and Harrington some room to breath with their creation. The guitars are delicate, the vocals are haunting, and the bass rhythms create an instant groove that you cannot get out of until three tracks come to their end.

Take a listen to the EP below, and make sure to grab a copy for $5 over at Clown and Sunset. Hopefully the EP gets a release on vinyl as my record player needs to experience this music just as much as you do. Enjoy!

During this year’s CMJ in NYC, Portugal. The Man stopped by The Ace Hotel for a semi-acoustic performance of a handful of tracks. In the interview portion, Zach Carothers and Ryan Neighbors discussed where the name for their latest LP In The Mountain, In The Cloud  came from, how their acoustic performances are different from their electric performances, along with some other questions pertaining to the band’s move from Alaska to Portland, and when they knew they “made it.”
