DOWNLOAD :: The Black Lips – “Modern Art”
May 2, 2011
VICE-powered Georgia bro’s The Black Lips have a new record coming out on June 7 (the same day as Fucked Up’s David Comes To Life. Be still, my boner.) Mark Ronson sashayed into the producer’s booth for Arabia Mountain to tighten up their jangly, southern-fried sound with a lick of his trademark vintage suave. Yep. This guy helped these guys make a record. And it’s gonna be good.

Our favorite thinking man’s plus-sized punk band have a new LP out on June 7 entitled David Comes To Life. They’re feeding the beast by teasing free mp3s almost weekly, the latest being “Ship of Fools.” Grab “Fools” below, then head to davidcomestolife.com to snag two others. The next track, “Queen of Hearts,” will be posted May 3.
Fucked Up assign more value to their vinyl than anyone this side of Jack White. Really looking forward to picking up this heavy-duty double disc come summer.

DIE ANTWOORD: The Answer
March 11, 2010
The answer to what? “Whatever man. Fuck”
South Africa’s Die Antwoord graced American soil last night for the first time, playing a surprise set at a Los Angeles Dim Mak party. Whispers of an NYC debut tonight are drooling around, but as of press time, the internet is radio-silent. I don’t have the gall to write Die Antwoord an introduction, it’s best left to the artists themselves.
“Enter The Ninja” is the first single form their debut record, $o$

VIDEO :: Gorillaz – “Superfast Jellyfish”
March 10, 2010“Superfast Jellyfish” is by far my favorite track off of Gorillaz latest release Plastic Beach. I was immediately drawn in to the song by that fat bass line that that they throw down throughout the track. Enjoy the wiggling and jiggling of the computerized jellyfish .. and the white guy dancing with the aforementioned sea creature.

Mariachi El Bronx In-Studio at KROQ + Massive Tour
February 24, 2010Mariachi el Bronx visited the KROQ studios last week, and filmed a few numbers for our posterity’s sake. Mariachi el Bronx is, of course, the suave, sensual, nimble-fingered (ask yer sister) alter-ego of Los Angeles rock & roll band The Bronx.
Both faces of the coin will gather a head of steam at SXSW, before embarking on yet another World tour. El Bronx will be the opener each evening, with Japanther on deck, and The Bronx-proper headlining. My digital associate and I are seeing them in close quarters at Maxwell’s to inhale as much Barrio Sweat as common decency permits. Then again at Bowery Ballroom like professional music fans.

VIDEO :: ArtOfficial – “Voodoo Child” Jam Session
February 1, 2010
A brief look into what ArtOfficial really is:
“Miami-based ArtOfficial consists of Danny Perez on keys, Manny Patino on drums, Ralf Valencia on bass, and Keith Cooper on the saxophone, with vocals provided by emcees Newsense and Logics.
The setup alone beckons the question, “What does a live band with two emcees sound like?” Well, imagine Soulive with a harder edge or The Roots, but jazzier, with more depth, and wildly spontaneous. Envision blending your favorite groups from hip hop’s “golden era,” replacing their sampled beats with jazz musicians and injecting a good dose of future funk into the whole equation. This synergy of sound doesn’t have to be imagined. It’s real — a living, breathing entity that hails from Miami, but thinks globally. Its name is ArtOfficial and its here to make you admire the past and embrace the future.”

RX Bandits premier video for “Hope is a Butterfly, No Net Its Captor”
January 28, 2010
RX Bandits have released the video for the single “Hope is a Butterfly, No Net Its Captor” off the band’s summer release, Mandala. The video finds the bandits chasing innocent bystanders while wearing bags over their heads and guns in their hand. They are not here for your money or worldly possessions but rather your heart, brain, and in this case, hope and/or freedom. This is by far one of my favorite tracks off of Mandala with it’s sense of urgency that is expressed through noticeable tempo changes and the vocals of Matt Embree. Do yourself a favor and enjoy the video below ..

LISTEN :: The Golden Filter – “Solid Gold” + “Thunderbird”
January 22, 2010
I’ll start off by saying that not much is known about the group The Golden Filter. A while back, I had posted a video for their track “Thunderbird” and I was immediately intrigued by their ability to make me wanna step up out of my chair and do a little dance around the room. Booty shaking aside, the band is now releasing their debut album Voluspa on April 26th. Keep your eyes peeled and ears open for these cats ..
Below, I have included the track “Thunderbird” and “Solid Gold” for your listening pleasure. “Solid Gold” reminds me of someone in an 80′s movie driving some sweet (now outdated) car on a highway at night with just the dirty glare of the driver and the lights on the streets in camera view. No?

When all the finishing touches are complete we will make it available to everyone on the same day. OK, we will answer 2 questions right now…
1. Yes, it is an entire album, 11 songs
2. Yes, it is a slightly more electronic, beats, samplers, etc. album than The Satanic Satanist. Maybe not something for the casual listener but for those who have a most of our records we think you will love it.”
