Yellow Ostrich share new track “‘Til I Disappear”

November 21, 2011

Earlier today, YANP premiered the brand new, unreleased Yellow Ostrich track “‘Til I Disappear.” While the single starts off with a lonely guitar line and the vocals of frontman Alex Schaaf, it slowly increases its pace into an all-out rock jam. After the combination of fuzzy effects and hard hitting drums takes hold of yours ears, all the sound drops out, and Yellow Ostrich finishes off the track with an excellent build-up of layered vocals.

Primus haven’t released a music video in years. Until now …

November 17, 2011

It has been eleven or so years since Primus released a music video. That is, of course, until IFC premiered Primus’ visuals for the single “Tragedy’s a’ Comin’”, which comes off the band’s latest LP Green Naugahyde and features an up-beat sound along with lyrics from Les Claypool that speak of an impending doom.

So, how did Primus go about giving the single the video treatment? Well, the band decided to go the lobster route since a lobster about to be dropped into a boiling pot of water is as clear an example of impending doom as I can think of. After watching the video a few times, I can only hope that Les Claypool incorporates the lobster suit into the band’s live performance! Who’s with me?

The Rapture hold “How Deep Is Your Love?” remix competition

November 17, 2011

As a follow-up to yesterday’s post regarding The Rapture‘s new video for “Sail Away,” and a bonus track that was included on the Japanese release of In The Grace Of Your Love, we wanted to let everyone know that the band is holding a remix competition for the single “How Deep Is Your Love?”

Check out the info below and start remixing!

From DFA Records:

“How Deep Is Your Love?” by The Rapture – if we can be a bit self-congratulatory – is a pretty awesome song. We know you guys agree. That’s why, for the first time in our 10 year history, we’d like to ask you folks to share your take on the track with us. Download the stems via the soundcloud player below and craft whatever sort of remix you’d like. Once you complete your masterpiece, submit it to the dropbox on the bottom of the page for a chance at fame and fabulous prizes! Three runners-up will win signed copies of In The Grace Of Your Love, while a grand prize winner will win a one year Soundcloud Pro account, valued at 250 euros! The final 5 selections will be played live on a very special live White Out Sessions broadcast and can be voted on via a live feed twitter and discussed amongst a “panel of experts”. The deadline for all entries is Monday December 5, so get to it!

Grab the stems here. Enter submission here.

For those of you who need a refresher, here is the original track:

The Rapture release bonus track “In Love Divine” + premier video for “Sail Away”

November 16, 2011

Since The Rapture‘s return to the music scene with the release of their latest LP In The Grace Of Your Love, the band’s discography has been on constant rotation here at MFPP. To celebrate our love for The Rapture, we have two treats in store for you!

First is “In Love Divine,” which is a 7 minute track that was included as a bonus single for the Japanese release of In The Grace Of Your Love.” Thanks to SKoA for the track!

Our second treat is the new video The Rapture released for In The Grace Of Your Love‘s opening track “Sail Away.” While “Sail Away” was not a standout track for me on the LP, the video is entertaining enough as frontman Luke Jenner rides around on what appears to be a piece of tinfoil.

LISTEN :: Spaceship Aloha (a.k.a. Pow Pow from Man Man) – “Xenon”

November 15, 2011

Christopher Powell is one busy man. Not only is he the drummer for Man Man, but he also teaches percussion lessons in the Philly area, has played with the bands Need New Body, the Chewables, and Icy Demons, and runs his own record label, Obey Your Brain. As if that wasn’t enough, Powell has released “Xenon,” which is the debut single from his new project Spaceship Aloha and features intergalactic synths, futuristic loops, and a subtle Hawaiian influence.

“Xenon” will be featured on Spaceship Aloha’s debut Universe Mahalo EP.

Earlier this month, Washed Out released a 12” for his single “Amor Fati,” which includes remixes of the dreamy single by Clams Casino and Au Revoir Simone. Also included on the release is a brand new Washed Out track titled “Call It Off,” which is overly catchy due to its dancey synth vibe.

Fujiya & Miyagi release new single “Ecstatic Dancer”

November 8, 2011

As a follow-up to this year’s Ventriloquizzing, the electro-pop four-piece Fujiya & Miyagi have released a new single “Ecstatic Dancer.” According to singer/guitarist David Best, “the title came from a drawing by Oskar Kokoschka. Lyrically it takes its cues from fifties songs which described dance moves, like the mash potato etc.” [via] In typical F&M fashion, the interaction between the drums, synth, and guitar drive the single and David Best’s vocals sound more like a conversation than singing.

Below, we have Fujiya & Miyagi’s live rendition of “Ecstatic Dancer,” which sounds much grittier than the studio single as the guitar in the video is overly fuzzy.

“Ecstatic Dancer” is currently available to download at iTunes, Yep Roc Records, and Amazon.

Camo & Krooked rework the “James Bond Theme” into an orchestral dubstep track

November 8, 2011

For Activision’s release of their latest game GoldenEye 007: Reloaded, Camo & Krooked reworked the “James Bond Theme” from it’s original swanky sound into a full-on orchestral dubstep piece. While I can’t imagine James Bond sipping on his “shaken, not stirred” martinis at a dubstep show, the rework is worth a listen!
