Camo & Krooked rework the “James Bond Theme” into an orchestral dubstep track

November 8, 2011

For Activision’s release of their latest game GoldenEye 007: Reloaded, Camo & Krooked reworked the “James Bond Theme” from it’s original swanky sound into a full-on orchestral dubstep piece. While I can’t imagine James Bond sipping on his “shaken, not stirred” martinis at a dubstep show, the rework is worth a listen!

Breathe Owl Breathe ready release of “The Listeners/These Train Tracks” book + 7″

November 3, 2011

On December 6th, Breathe Owl Breathe will be releasing a 7” for the singles “The Listeners” and “These Train Tracks,” along with a children’s book that was written, illustrated, carved, and printed by BOB’s Micah Middaugh.  Because each canvas-covered volume is being handcrafted and assembled by the band, the release will be limited to 750 copies. Pre-orders are currently available here.

While the lyrics of both of the singles follow the words/story in the childrens book, the sound of the two tracks are completely different. “The Listeners” features the combined vocals of Middaugh and a child, along with the delicate strumming of an acoustic guitar, minimal drum patterns, and some beautiful orchestral instruments. “These Train Tracks,” on the other hand, uses organic drum patterns created by handclaps, finger snaps, and what sounds to be a hand slapping a table, along with a repetitive synth line. What really stands out on “These Train Tracks” are the additional backing vocals, which act as another percussive instrument in the song, and really add another layer of sound to the story BOB is telling.

Breathe Owl Breathe Tour Dates::
Fri. Nov. 25 - Grand Rapids, MI @ DAAC *
Sat. Nov. 26 - Grand Rapids, MI @ Wealthy Theater – 3pm
Sat. Nov. 26 - Grand Rapids, MI @ DAAC – 8pm *

VIDEO :: The Beach Boys – “Heroes and Villains”

November 3, 2011

Back in 1966 and 1967, the Beach Boys recorded a number of sessions that were intended to be released as a follow-up to 1966′s Pet Sounds. The recordings were dubbed Smile but were never released due to “clashes within the group and their leader Brian Wilson’s deteriorating mental health.” [via] That is until now! The Smile Sessions are currently streaming here, but you only have a few more days to listen!

Recently, Robert Capria created and animated a music video for The Smile Sessions‘ single “Heroes and Villains”, which can be seen below. My favorite part of the video is around the 28 second mark where a group of skeletons shoot multi-colored beams of light into the air, which later becomes the rotating background for a hula dancer to bust her moves infront of.

The Smile Sessions box set is currently available for purchase at Amazon.

BAND TO WATCH :: Electric Guest

November 3, 2011

After my first listen through the LA-duo Electric Guest‘s tracks “Troubleman” and “American Daydream,” I thought to myself that their sound was very similar to Broken Bells‘ mellow pop with its crisp guitar and drum lines, haunting vocals, and wonderful accents of organ/synths. Then, much to my surprise, I stumbled upon the following post by KCRW:

“Despite being virtually unknown, they are one of the most promising unsigned bands in the world, aided by the fact that they’re managed by Monotone Inc. (Jack White, Vampire Weekend, The Shins, Cold War Kids) and produced by Brian Burton (AKA Danger Mouse).”

Danger Mouse? You mean half of Broken Bells? Apparently, my ears did not fool me!

Check out “Troubleman” and “American Daydream” (both in the player below), and make sure to take in all the electro, soul, and pop that the duo currently has to offer. Electric Guest’s debut LP will be released through Downtown Records at some point in 2012 (The AudioPerv points towards a release in Spring 2012.)

VIDEO:: Aman Ellis – “Hawaiian Holiday in Hi-Fi”

November 2, 2011

From his Cacti Ep, Vol. 2, Aman Ellis has released a video for the single “Hawaiian Holiday in Hi-Fi,” which features an array of stock footage of people enjoying the beach, hula dancers, and other “Hawaiian” activities. While we slowly progress into the winter months, let Ellis’ blend of tropical lounge-y samples keep you warm.

The Cacti EP, Vol. 2 is currently available for free here.

LISTEN:: Absofacto – “If You Want”

November 2, 2011

While Jonathan Visger is known as a member of the group Mason Proper, the singer/songwriter also releases music under his solo project Absofacto. Visger’s songs instantly make your day better as each release consistently features his ability to write and record pop music, and usually includes some insight as to the inspiration for each track.

For Absofacto’s latest release, “If You Want”, Visger included a story about how his family used to watch the movie Harold and Maude and how the music Cat Stevens wrote for the film has always stuck with him. While I have neither seen the movie, nor heard the Cat Steven’s tracks associated with it, I am still thoroughly enjoying “If You Want.” The beat is up-tempo, the vocals are uplifting, and the best part of all is that it was created and recorded by a single person.

For more music from Absofacto, head to his bandcamp. I recommend the Sinking Islands EP as a good starting point as it features eight singles that were remastered and reworked, along with two new tracks.

VIDEO :: Zedd – “Shave It”

November 1, 2011

Welcome to November! This is the one month out of the year where a large number of men will opt out of shaving in order to grow a moustache and support the Movember cause, which raises funds and awareness for men’s health (specifically cancers that affect men.) Keeping all of this mind, isn’t it odd that Zedd has released his video for the single “Shave It” on November 1?

Because we are a fan of Zedd and his latest single, our advice is to enjoy the song now and follow the instructions from the track on December 1.
