The French folk/experimental/minimalist Franklin is set to release an album on March 11th and our first taste of the record comes from the track “I Know.” Interestingly enough, Com Truise took a liking to the single and remixed it into an all-out synth jam. Check out M.I.A.‘s 35-minute, Wikileaks inspired mixtape, ViCKi LEEKX, which features some cuts that did not make it on to /\/\/\Y/\. As you can see in the photo above, the production on this mix was handled by Danjahands, Munchi, Diplo, Blaqstarr, Switch, Rusko, VIIXIIV, So Japan and M.I.A.

In addition to the mixtape, we have David Kennedy’s (aka Pearson Sound) refix of M.I.A.’s single “It Takes a Muscle.” On the track, “Kennedy disassembles the electro-tinged reggae of the original and constructs a completely new creature bred specifically for the dance floor.” [via]

Weatherhouse is the new dancefloor experience from indie/electronic wizard George Cochrane and disco mastermind Christopher Vick, which features huge disco beats combined with dreamy, floating hooks. Being that the duo’s inspiration stems from Italo disco and their California surroundings, their sound has been dubbed as “Calo Disco.”

Weatherhouse are set to release their debut album E Pluribus Calo Disco on March 1 and below, we have two tracks for you to sample. I love how “Cometius” starts off with the  distant sound of a native chant + drums before the harp line kicks in and a synthy bass line drops.

Last month, we previewed “Intro” and “Days” from Brooklyn’s latest witch-house project CREEP. Oddly enough, a few days after my introduction to the duo, I stumbled across some of their artwork, which was posted up on a random building across from the Crash Mansion in NYC (photo above.) Well, that news was so 2010.

Fans of the lovely videos Blogotheque released of Beirut should rejoice as the entire DVD is now available for free download! Read up on the project below and make sure to grab yourself a copy.

On September 2007, Chryde and Vincent Moon went to New York to film Beirut play all the tracks from the Flying Club Cup in bars, rooms, parks and even in an ice-cream truck garage. In the hour-long movie they brought back, Zach Condon wanders alone in Brooklyn and eventually finds, in each place, his band waiting for him, behind a door, on stairs..

Sadly, we sold out years ago this DVD.

Chris Peterson, a fan of Beirut, decided, with the consent of BadaBing (Beirut’s label) and ours, to upload and share files from the DVD (read the story). “It may be late but it’s just in time! Me and BJ holed up in his room yesterday and today and wrote and recorded this Christmas original. The rest of the band was out of town so we decided to include voicemails they left us. this also marks the song debut of our humble manager and mentor Geoffrey Sawyer. He’s the dude that sounds like Barry White at the end.”

The Monterrey/Vancouver trio known as Mind Cinema have shared their previously unreleased track “Flow” in an effort to give back to those who supported the band in 2010.  Additionally, their 8 track Sun Beat EP can be downloaded right here. Their sound has been self-described as “shoegaze, ambient, dream pop, chillwave, lo-fi, experimental…Whatever you want to call it” but let the video below give you a better idea ..

Remixes come and go pretty quickly these days as internet usage increases and songs become even easier to access, break down, and recreate. This should not, however, discredit artists like Tokyo Cigar, who has recently released a mash-up of FELT‘s 3.0 x Nancy Sinatra and a remix of Ghostface‘s track “Apollo Kids.”If you have yet to get hip to the sounds of the Maryland DJ/Producer, grab some insight into the artist and check out an interview he did here.

On his album A Tribute to Nancy Sinatra, Tokyo Cigar uses the instrumentals from FELT’s latest LP 3.0 and adds the loving vocals of Nancy Sinatra to create a tasty 15 track album for y’all to enjoy.

While it may have taken us 3 days to settle in to 2011 before making our first post of the new year, don’t fret! We have returned with some fresh new jams from RJD2‘s label, RJ’s Electrical Connections!

To get things started, here are three new remixes of “The Glow”from RJD2′s latest LP The Colossus. On The Glow Remix EP, which is available to stream/download below, we see the work of Chicago’s Flosstradamus, the remix contest winner Paola, and Candy Panther.  Grab a listen here:

Additionally, RJ’s Electrical Connections is planning a February 1st release of a new project by RJD2, which will feature his side-project moniker The Insane Warrior.

From RJD2:

In a way, this album could be considered a soundtrack to a movie that doesn’t exist (at the moment). A strictly instrumental affair, the album “We Are The Doorways” was loosely inspired by horror and sci-fi film scores of the wonderfully fruitful period of 1976-1984. Several things mark this record – for one, there is a departure from the concise nature of most modern pop-oriented records. Expansive, open passages – often with no rhythmic elements – recall the work of both Eno and John Carpenter. These give way to spastic outbursts of energy in places. At other times, the tension-meets-groove aesthetic of Dario Argento’s pet Goblin give birth to some surprisingly funky cuts as well.

While heavily leaning on big, expansive analog synth sounds, angular rhythms, and blissful ambient passages, the record still maintains the attention to groove that RJD2′s label is known for. At times jazzy, psychedelic, and introspective, the exploratory nature of the music shines through. The Insane Warrior’s ‘We Are The Doorways’ is yet another unique landmark in the growing catalog of RJ’s Electrical Connections.
