Blackalicious have released their first track in five years as part of Target’s Christmas Gig. The compilation features the Gift of Gab and Chief Xcel’s offering, “Toy Jackpot,” along with tracks from from Guster, Darker My Love, Natalie Hemby, Crystal Antlers, Bishop Allen, Jenny O., Little Jackie, Best Coast, Wavves, Coconut Records, Little Isidore, The Pinker Tones, and Ceci Bastida.
From Target:
Some music takes you back, like way back when footie pajamas were the sleepwear of choice and eating candy canes for breakfast seemed like a good idea. Blackalicious delivers this song from the point of view of a child on Christmas morning, channeling the excitement one could only feel during a total, paper-tearing toyfest.

Teen Daze have released a 4 track EP called Beach Dreams, which you can listen to below and buy/share over at bandcamp.
From Teen Daze:
I really came to fall in love with the whole lo-fi pop scene this summer, and I wanted to see what I could come up with. After writing “Let’s Fall Asleep Together”, the last three just sort of happened in the span of a few days. I know that it’s starting to get cold, and that carefree love songs about beach life may seem out of context, but I hope that you guys can look back on your past summer, and let these songs remind you of some of the good experiences you had!

From Mishka:
Those wacky, Australian, now Brooklyn based funbags, The Death Set, have really gone and done it now. This is an amazing Forty-three track party mix that will make for a great party but I wouldn’t put this on at a house party because it will turn into a whirling tornado of humping and grinding, bumping and jiving, slamming and sliding. Jay Reatard got mashed up with Beastie Boys. Black Sheep got mooshed up with the Descendents. Who would have thought that combining rap and rock would work so well except for Aerosmith and Run DMC. And Public Enemy and Anthrax. And all those other guys who were like,”I’m playing metal guitars and there’s a black guy on stage rapping over it! God those white guys in those music videos sure seem smug for being able to collaborate with black rappers. Most of the time I get the sense that after rap became the biggest musical genre that the rappers are just thinking “I don’t really care about Anthrax or Limp Bizkit and I don’t want to hear someone tell me about the ways that Public Enemy are a fucking punk group from some goony guy. Let’s just film this so I can get my paycheck and go back to doing my fucking music.” But these Death Setters have much more in common with how early Beastie Boys were influenced by Bad Brains than your older brothers “controversial” MTV Rap Rock collection.
This mix is so much more than raps and rocks getting jumbled around. There’s a good melange of everything that would possibly get people pumped. There’s some salsa, the Zombies, The Jackson 5, some Fugazi, Angry Samoans, The Misfits, Descendents, Waka Flocka, Black Sheep, Cee Lo-you know what, it’s mostly just punk and rap. But there’s a ton of great mixing in this thing. You know how you’ve got those songs where you can’t see the entire song because it lists all the people it sampled. ”Jaggin’ Off (Quietly So As Not To Wake My Awful Girlfriend) VS. Sublime VS. 311 VS. Dillinger Escape Plan.” That’s actually more like a fight I’d like to see than a song actually. 311 would be all, “Excuse me sir, this is not at all irie!” and the living guys from Sublime would be throwing pieces of the dead guy at the other bands. The juice head singer from Dillinger Escape Plan would just immediately tear out of his clothing like the Incredible Hulk.
Seriously this mix is like the perfect party starter. High energy punk blends into things that are new but familiar. Small nods, short sampled interstitials and an amazing cover of the Cure’s Grinding Halt make this mix something you’re going to want to put on as the party starts when people start getting into it and want to dance and again at the end of the night once the only people left there are so drunk that they’re dancing like nutcases, passed out or fucking somewhere in your home.

Knowing that a new Man Man album has been recorded and will be released some time in the near future is certainly one thing to get excited about. More excitement should arise, however, with the announcement of Mister Heavenly signing to Sub Pop Records! You may be asking yourself “what is the connection between Man Man + Mister Heavenly?” The answer, my friends, is two words .. one man … HONUS HONUS!
Spurred on by a mutual appreciation for doo-wop and doomed love songs (aka doom-wop), Nick Diamonds (Islands/Unicorns) and Honus Honus (Man Man) set out to record a one-off instrumental 7″ but soon found, within a span of a few late-night sessions, themselves writing an entire album. When Joe Plummer (Modest Mouse) joined in, Mister Heavenly was officially born. [via]

NOTE: The first video is titled “People Say” but is actually “Guns and Dogs” through “People Say.” The second video is just “And I.”
Good Old War have consistently been touring throughout 2010 and during their last roadtrip, the indie-folk trio stopped by the Hurley studios to record the track “Coney Island.”

From Insound:
On October 21st, 2010, Insound & Maker’s Mark hosted an artist lounge & recording session at Stratosphere Sound in New York City, the likes of which has never been done before. Grammy winning engineer Geoff Sanoff (Nada Surf, Secret Machines, A Camp) took on the insane task of recording eight of indie music’s most talked about new bands in eight hours, and the results are nothing but stellar. It was an unforgettable day filled with amazing performances, delicious Maker’s Mark cocktails for a little liquid inspiration, and the artists walked away with cool gear from iconic clothing line Fred Perry. Below are the exclusive recordings you’ll only find on Insound.com. Enjoy!
