Music for Perfect People

I have been sitting on this “review” of the new Chemical Brothers album Further for quite some time. This was due to the fact that I have not written many reviews in the past and was a bit apprehensive to throw it out there. But, the Chemical Brothers just debuted a brand new video for their track “Another World” and I figured that I might as well combine the review and the video into one post. So, enjoy the video and be gentle on the review ..

Further opens up with the vocal line “You’re love keeps lifting me .. lifting me higher” and while we were promised love, I can say this may have been a misinterpretation for an awesome album filled with electro-psychedelia. Further moves as though the Chemical Brothers are kicking these jams out to your ears in a live setting as the entire album takes off with each track seamlessly blending into one another. For some reason, I constantly had the intro of “Teenage Wasteland” in my mind as Further traveled from it’s 80′s electro-pop ballad “Another World” and later into the acoustic instrument equipped “K+D”+B.” The whole album gives off a live throwback vibe set in the future and I can certainly dig it.

While I haven’t given the Roots latest effort How I Got Over a lot of listening time, I do believe that the track “The Fire” is a definite standout. Continue on after the video for some words from the director Rik Cordero regarding the piece.

According to Rik Cordero:

“The Fire” chronicles a post-apocalyptic death march set in 1945 during the final stages of World War II in Europe. After a cataclysmic event renders the war futile, a paramilitary splinter group — led by a Kurtz-like figure known as The Commodore — forces the transfer of young men who will be used as labor…and food. The last survivor of the march receives a mysterious White Box which holds the key to survival.

Tobacco‘s Maniac Meat has been on constant rotation over here since it’s release and so I was quite pleased to find that Spin.com posted an exclusive video for the trippy “Grape Aerosmith,” which features the vocal workings of Beck. Check it out below ..

Svetlana Industries has released their 2nd shortcast and the focus this time is on Coco Bryce. Emerging from the Dutch bass and beats scene, Coco Bryce has connected himself with the Lowriders Collective where he will be releasing a full-length soon, and also runs his own vinyl label called Myor.

“Coco’s scene is closer to the harder, synthier sound typified by Loops Haunt and Slugabed, but here he delivers a truly varied selection, witty, unpredictable and grittily fun.”

If you’re a fan of Black Moth Super Rainbow (an odd bunch that we are) it is fairly safe to assume that you gobble up all the side projects that any of the members come out with. We have heard music from Tobacco (BMSR frontman,) and Seven Fields of Aphelion (BMSR keyboardist) but now we have BMSR guitarist Ryan Graveface’s project called Dreamend.

Take a listen to the track “Magnesium Light” off Dreamend‘s upcoming release So I Ate Myself, Bite by Bite and prepare to lull thyself to sleep with the dreamy sound of the banjo.

I feel that it is safe to assume that by now you should have already heard LCD Soundsystem‘s  latest effort This is Happening or at least heard about it. Regardless, See Green (aka Courtenay Green) has taken the  ballad of a track “I Can Change” off This is Happening and transformed it into an uptempo pop rager.

Major Lazer have released their full-length Guns Don’t Kill People Do but were there any extra tracks that didn’t make the cut? You would think that after taking french classes for nearly 10 years I would be able to comprehend any of the lyrics in the latest Toxic Avenger video for the track “N’Importe Comment.” This, however, is not the case but don’t let that hold you back from enjoying  ..
