Music for Perfect People

Spirituals is the sample-based music project of drummer + producer + graphic artist Tyler Tadlock. With roots in Mississippi and a current abode in Portland, Tadlock has created electronic music that pays homage to his roots in jazz music. Keep an eye out for Spirituals  debut record release through Waaga Records on June 22nd.

In this collection, Fela’s political and social commentary begins to reach a boiling point with songs such as “Alagbon Close”, “Icy Blindness”, and “Expensive Shit.” “Na Poi” was banned from the radio for explicit sexual references, and in “Yellow Fever” Fela urges people to shake loose the colonial mentality. Fela’s more poetic and metaphysical inclinations are also represented in this collection, with masterpieces such as “Water No Get Enemy.”
