Wild Orchid Children BLOW MINDS with “Black Shiny FBI Shoes”
March 30, 2010
In case you’ve been sleeping on any of the recent Wild Orchid Children posts I’ve been throwing up, THIS IS NOT ONE TO MISS. Yesterday, the band released “Black Shiny FBI Shoes,” the opening track to their album Wild Orchid Children … Are Alexander Supertramp.
So what is so damn special about this track? How about the fact that it is an 18 minute rock experience unlike anything else I have heard in years .. the emotion that runs through this track is quite evident .. and the backstory to some of the lyrics will make you understand this a little more.
For lack of better words on my end, check out part of the article from Line Out:
“At the 17:46 mark of the song, singer Kirk Huffman repeatedly screams, “Where are you? Where the fuck are you?” Once he screams the name Kino Gomez.
Kino Gomez is the man who shot and killed Tom Pfaeffle, the beloved Wild Orchid / Kay Kay / Art Institute producer, engineer, friend, father, teacher, husband, human.”
Wild Orchid Children posted a lengthy blog post on July 19th, 2009 detailing their love for their lost teacher + friend .. listen to the track again, think about the events noted above and suddenly .. 18 minutes doesn’t seem like that long.
