Peep the new video from the ultrahyper, distortion-loving British rock trio The Joy Formidable.  They’ve been really active in the UK over the last year, but only recently broke their US cherry opening for Passion Pit twice at Terminal 5 this January.  ”Popinjay” will be the first single from their forthcoming album, but is up on iTunes now.

Tonight the original lineup of veteran Austin, TX rock group …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead is reuniting for a one-off show at Midnight Masses Union Pool residency.  Callers will also be performing.

…Trail of Dead is one of those bands that’s been playing music for so long, you’ve either dedicated a substantial portion of your heart to them or you’ve largely put them out of your mind.  Not unlike Weezer, …Trail of Dead recorded a widely lauded and beloved record early in their career (Weezer’s Blue Album to their Source Tags & Codes), only to see each ensuing album garner far less acclaim than their perceived high point.  While Source Tags is undoubtedly my favorite album, Worlds Apart, So Divided, and The Century Of Self all have spectacular moments.

Considering the lineup, it’s probably safe to assume the band will focus on a lot of early material.

Mariachi el Bronx visited the KROQ studios last week, and filmed a few numbers for our posterity’s sake.   Mariachi el Bronx is, of course, the suave, sensual, nimble-fingered (ask yer sister) alter-ego of Los Angeles rock & roll band The Bronx.

Both faces of the coin will gather a head of steam at SXSW, before embarking on yet another World tour.  El Bronx will be the opener each evening, with Japanther on deck, and The Bronx-proper headlining.  My digital associate and I are seeing them in close quarters at Maxwell’s to inhale as much Barrio Sweat as common decency permits.  Then again at Bowery Ballroom like professional music fans.

Check out Club 8‘s latest track “Western Hospitality”  from their upcoming effort The People’s Record (due out in May on Labrador Records.)  I really dig the “middle-eastern” Hawaii Five-O guitar line and ooohhs and ahhhs + the afro-cuban drum rhythms rocking in the background.
