FREE DOWNLOAD :: Friendship Bracelet Club Volume 3

January 29, 2010

DOWNLOAD :: Friendship Bracelet Club Volume 3 – [MP3]

In regards to the 3rd installment,  Friendship Bracelet gave this description:

1. Pink Priest – Sweet Blood. Volume 3 opens with swells from Pink Priest a.k.a. William Cody Watson taken from the 20+ minute piece I Want To Stand Next To You At The End Of The World. Sneak peek status. Check out the whole thing HERE.

2. Speculator – Share. Another brilliant and hazy pop gem from Nick, salt-sweet air from an open window wafting in. Don’t worry, Summer is only like 2 seasons away. Watch out for this split he’s doing with Luke Perry, out now on Wet Merchants. Act fast – THERE ARE ONLY 15 LEFT.

3. Fluker Love – Soaked. I dig all this swirling sex-pulse stuff coming outa this guy. Again, “like if Loveless was made for £1.50.” Check out his blog and check out the entire Fluker Love self-titled full-length by clicking through his Myspace.

4. Family Portrait – It Turns. Brand new track from Underwater Peoples‘ house band is sounding better and better by the minute. Just wait til they’re all back in the U.S.

5. How To Dress Well & cokc dokc – Lover’s Start (Desert Voyage). A sensual strut through R&B hiss and echoed harmonies. If you haven’t checked out the 3″ CDRs these guys have been busting out, you should. The fifth in the series of five drops soon, later to be reissued in a sort of box set.

6. Boneless – Hymn. Sparkling dawnbreak sounds from Nevada. Be sure to keep posted about the Boneless tape out on Leftist Nautical Antiques/Friendship Bracelet sometime in the next month..

7. Tall Boys – Miami. I mentioned this track last week, praising it for sounding so pleasant and sunny even though it’s the end of January. Tall Boys is Kenny from Byrds of ParadiseMount McKinley, just a couple “BROES TAKING A BREAK FROM LAX TO DRINK BEERS AND JAM.”

8. Cool World – Sun Roof Top. Nick and Sean came all the way from Providence to play the first Friendship Bracelet Presents show last month, which is way cool in my book. Dudes have a full-length out sometime this year on DŒS ARE, which will also be way cool.

9. Coasting – Hots For Teacher.

10. Total Slacker – Stuck In 93. Two dudes plus one dudette make lazy pop music about tacos, burritos, Pepsi.

11. More Bikini Babes – Took My Shoes Off. The last compilation gave you “Fishing With My Dad.” Here’s an instrumental jam to whet the whistle until he done recordin the full-length.

12. High Wolf – Friendship. Pretty consistent with all the talk about “plantain based smoke-magic” and “Sun-traveller vibes” and “tripped out, swelter-zone equatorial electronics.” This was an outtake from the songs that went into the Incapulco CDR. Stay tuned for much more High Wolf, including a split 12″ with FBC vets Forest Swords on Group Tightener (what a perfect pairing), a High Wolf LP on Not Not Fun and a tape on Krayon.

13. Jeans Wilder – By Midnight. Jeans took an FBC vacation on Volume 2, but he back this time with a cavernous burner suitable for some cryptic meeting in a foggy graveyard to exchange some sacred items necessary for a particular occult ritual, trudging through dew and dirt and headstones. Tons of new material coming our way including two 7″s, two cassettes and two splits. Check the Myspace for more details.

14. Truman Peyote – Anotherother. A couple months ago, Caleb from Truman Peyote came to WMUA studios with Orion from Lord Jeff and banged out four live songs in our studio. One of them was called “Anotherother,” which eventually ended up on their Peaced Together split 12″ with Many Mansions as “Magentadoor II.” This version of the song sees a wild, crashing climax exclusively for WMUA and FB.US.

15. Buon Giorno Luamada – Shoni. Igor got me this track a bit ago, lots of beautiful sampled confusion and space zones. He is a cinema student from Rio de Janeiro. His album is available from Perdizes Dream.

Listen :: Unreleased Jimi Hendrix track “Valleys of Neptune”

January 29, 2010

On March 9th a previously unreleased album from Jimi Hendrix titled Valleys of Neptune will be released.

According to Spinner:

“Though there have been many posthumous releases from Jimi Hendrix‘s archives since his tragic death, the recently-announced ‘Valleys of Neptune’ isn’t meant to be a “lost” album. Rather, it’s a look at the creative period in Hendrix’s life between the 1968 release of ‘Electric Ladyland’ and his legendary appearance at Woodstock the following summer.”

“The dozen tracks on ‘Valleys of Neptune’ reflect a time where Hendrix, finding his way with a new band while fighting contractual problems, was blossoming creatively.”

RX Bandits premier video for “Hope is a Butterfly, No Net Its Captor”

January 28, 2010

RX Bandits have released the video for the single “Hope is a Butterfly, No Net Its Captor” off the band’s summer release, Mandala. The video finds the bandits chasing innocent bystanders while wearing bags over their heads and guns in their hand. They are not here for your money or worldly possessions but rather your heart, brain, and in this case, hope and/or freedom. This is by far one of my favorite tracks off of Mandala with it’s sense of urgency that is expressed through noticeable tempo changes and the vocals of Matt Embree. Do yourself a favor and enjoy the video below ..

God damn this band is awesome.

DOWNLOAD :: Blockhead’s Throwaway Files Vol. 1

January 28, 2010

According to Blockhead’s blog:

“I recently found a bunch of old beat tapes (literally cassettes). I hadn’t listened to any of that stuff in over 5/6 years and thought it would be cool to digitalize them. All these beats are either not saved or past the point where i would/could put them out. Included on these cassettes were the first beats I ever made. They date back to around 94/95 before i even had a sampler of my own. My homeboy Kasm (formally of the Atoms family) had just bought a MPC so i would go over there with samples and we’d make beats. this continued till about late 95 when i finally got my own sampler. While it was nice to have my own equipment , the difference in quality between what I was doing and what Kasm and I were doing was noticeable to say the least. in short, my solo beats sucked…for a long time. Not realizing this at the time i recorded everything i made and kept plugging away at it. it’s a good thing i did cause i’d very likely be working some shitty minimum wage job had i not.
so, with that, i give you “throwaway files Vol. 1″. it’s 16 random beats i made between 95-2003 that will never be used or heard in any other way. i chose these 16 randomly from about 175 tracks. the only one i picked specifically was the first beat i ever made (with kasm). it’s pretty bad but still crazy to hear after all these years. if you guys are into this kinda shit, lemme know and i’ll post more as this blog progresses.
I just figured those of you who are into beats and the beat making process (nerds) would be curious of how my beats have progressed over the years.
enjoy.”

The Builders & The Butchers release a LIVE album!

January 27, 2010

The video above is a compilation of tracks taken from the The Builders & The Butchers’ latest LIVE release Where The Roots All Grow. The Builders have been in my constant shuffle of tunes for over a year now and I am continually amazed at the beauty of their instrumentation and the stories that Ryan Sollee portrays with his vocals.  This album comes at a perfect time in 2010 as I will be experiencing the live show of the group this upcoming March when they head out on tour with RX Bandits + Zechs Marquise.

In order to get your hands on this beauty, head over to the band’s website. You can grab a digital copy or the CD  and either choice will also include a video for each track on the live album! Not sold yet? Check out the track below from the album –
