“All is Love” with ‘Where the Wild Things Are’

August 25, 2009

The first song by Karen O and the Kids has been released from the Where the Wild Things Are Soundtrack.

CLICK HERE to check out this  jam.

Inside Karen O is a Wild Thing – as singer for the Grammy-nominated Yeah Yeah Yeahs, her wild thing is in your face, vulnerable, obnoxious, tender, exciting… a self-proclaimed “spazoid.” To Oscar-nominated Where the Wild Things Are director Spike Jonze, however, Karen O and her music possess something of a child-like innocence, a guileless charm that put her exactly on the right emotional wavelength to sonically capture the film, be it a tender moment or a wild rumpus.

To compose the music, O enlisted friends and fellow musicians she believed had a musical intuition that would bolster her intent to marry sound to vision. Dubbed Karen O and the Kids, these include Tristan Bechet (Services), Tom Biller (co-producer with Karen O and member of Afternoons), Bradford Cox (Deerhunter), Brian Chase (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age, The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs), Aaron Hemphill (Liars), Greg Kurstin (The Bird and the Bee), Jack Lawrence (The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs, The Greenhornes), Oscar Michel (Gris Gris), Imaad Wasif (New Folk Implosion, Alaska), Nick Zinner, (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and an untrained children’s choir.

BIG NEWS! :: RJD2 – New Label + Re-Releases

August 21, 2009

According to RJD2′s lengthy myspace blog post last night, the man has been busy at work not only in the studio wrapping up his next release but also starting his own label (!) and getting ready to re-release all his previous works on vinyl!

To quote Mr. RJD2:

“After much legwork/lawyer hours/busting ass, I announce to you that I have started my own record label, RJ’S ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS, and the first signing is…….RJD2!!! I am now a free agent, working for myself.  Been a long time coming, and it is truly one of the most exciting moments of my career.  The hardcore completionists out there may know that I have previously done some “smaller” releases on my own, under the label Bustown Pride. That was small peanuts; this time out, I have FULL worldwide distribution through The Orchard(world digital, US physical), and K7 everywhere outside of the US (physical). Furthermore, I also have acquired the first 3 RJD2 releases for my label; my first 3 babies-Dead Ringer, The Horror EP, and Since We Last Spoke. But that’s not all….

This past Tuesday(technically today, as I write this at 11:30pm; running a label is no joke!) saw the first ever digital release of 3 cds of b-sides and rarities I had previously released on Bustown Pride: Your Face Or Your Kneecaps, In Rare Form, and Things Go Better Instrumentals. Your Face Or Your Kneecaps also features 2 brand-new, previously unreleased tracks, as a bonus. But wait, there’s more….

On October 20, there will be the release of a box set commemorating close to 10 years in the game: RJD2 2002-2010. A strictly vinyl affair, it will include full length LP versions of Dead Ringer, The Horror EP(first time on vinyl!), Since We Last Spoke, The Tin Foil Hat EP (a BRAND NEW EP of 7 unreleased songs!), a hand silk screened, signed and numbered poster, a download card for exclusive treats, plus a beautifully printed box.”

This is really exciting news for all the RJ heads out there .. my turntable is going to squeal with delight once those vinyls make their first touch down and play.

READ :: Joe Murphy’s Cleverly Titled Blog

August 21, 2009
So official.

Mr. Joseph Murphy is a comedian out of Ohio (by way of Long Island) who has been on the comedy circuit for a few years now.    Because this fella has a twisted sense of humor mixed with constant thoughts of of booze, women, and all else ridiculous .. the things that keep the male brain ticking .. I suggest you check out Joe Murphy’s Cleverly Titled Blog .. variety is the spice of life children of the interweb.

Need an idea of what Mr. Murphy has to offer? Check out his latest post titled “03/13″ :

“I had one of the most amazing natural phenomenons occur while I was at CVS this week. I was running low on love gloves, so I went to purchase new ones… Her pleasure, because as I’ve said I am a gentleman, however I looked at the box and saw the expiration date 3/13 this means the condoms expire on March of 2013… This alarms me because according to the Mayan civilization the world will end in December of 2012… I am afraid to buy milk that expires in a week, why would I buy condoms that are advertised to outlast the apocalypse…it is bad enough that Internet porn and longer showers have led to me having a carbon number that resembles that of Times Square, but giving me post apocalyptal sexual hope is like giving ET a lifetime supply of Reece’s Pieces. Distributing condoms that last past December 2012 is like giving Robert Reed and Magic Johnson a second hope… I think until further scientific evidence is compiled, all condoms should be dated 12/2012 because, let’s face it, it you outlast that you will outlast anything.”

Raunchy? Yes. Out of context for this music blog? May be. Should you read his blog and go see his comedy shows? Absolutely!

Song of the Day 08.20.09 :: Forest Swords – “Miarches”

August 20, 2009

more about “Song of the Day 08.20.09 :: Forest Sw…“, posted with vodpod
One-man project Forest Swords is based in Wirral/Liverpool, UK. Forest Swords’ music reflects the sprawling Wirral landscape of river, coastland and woodland while echoing nearby city Liverpool’s enviable pop history. Foggy grooves rub shoulders with simple, skeletal R’n’B/hip hop influenced beats and snippets of striking, bewitching melody. It has been described as ‘psychedelic dub’ and ‘slow burning drone-step with soul’.
