I had originally heard of the Portland band Nurses a year or two ago when they toured with the RX Bandits .. they have a wonderful raw poppy indie vibe that I quickly began to dig. They have a new record coming out in August titled Apple’s Acre.

It has been over two years since James Brown, the GodFather of Soul, passed away from heart failure on Christmas Day in 2006 .. his estate and possessions have finally been divided up.

According to the Daily News,
” the judge okayed a settlement Tuesday that gives nearly half his assets to a charitable trust, a quarter to his widow and young son, and the rest to Brown’s adult children.”
Philly.com also reported that
“The value of Brown’s assets has not been made public, but some of his possessions were auctioned for $850,000, partly to pay debt. Attorneys have said the singer’s accounts have little money in them. Future income – from movies, royalties and the sale of Brown’s likeness – is what’s really at stake.”
This video is a just a tad out there .. enjoy the moves.

Listen to the new Black Moth Super Rainbow album Eating Us yet? You probably should.

The Pennsylvanian experimental band released their latest piece of work yesterday and it was quite the enjoyable listen this morning. The band increased their level of production on this record and this obviously improves the quality of the sounds produced. Any fan of the band will continue to enjoy the deep bass, flute-like synthesizers, broken-up drum beats, and creepy vocodor and other voice-effect driven vocals.
Check out one of the tracks titled “Tooth Decay”

Now I certainly couldnt leave you for the week without throwing out some new info on the RX Bandits album.
Yes .. it is titled Mandala.
Yes .. the artwork was done by Sonny Kay (click here for an interview with Sonny)
and Yes .. here is the video for the mixing of the record.
The band’s description of themselves is perfect:
Blame Ringo are a band on a unique mission. They are using the power of song to blame Ringo Starr… for everything.
Originally billed as “Goodnight Vienna”, the band had to change its name in late 2007 after being threatened with legal action by a “Richard Starkey Jr”. Apparently “Goodnight Vienna” was the name of Ringo’s fourth studio album and although he “thoroughly enjoyed the music” he was “obligated to dissuade any profiteering which resulted from the use of his intellectual property.”
What a bastard.
After a spiteful name change (and a lot of muckraking) the new and improved “Blame Ringo” are set to have their revenge by seeking to expose the man who lays claim to inventing the ‘peace’ sign.
Check out their video for Garble Arch.
The Cold War Kids recentely released a music video that allows the viewer to change different aspects of the music video. By clicking on each band member, you can mute the sound of that instrument OR change the color of the instrument/member .. pretty interesting.Changing the color of the band member also changes the style of playing by that member .. i.e. the drum beat is different from the color yellow to the green.
Confused? Just play with the damn video. Yellow = reggae. Do it.

Sorry for the somber title ..
this video is awesome because every second of 3 and 1/2 some odd minutes makes you feel like it is the end of some sweet montage or some action sequence .. check it out
