The Builders & The Butchers
February 26, 2009
For some reason or another, a large amount of my new music has been coming from the Portland, Oregon area — The sound is so different than the NYC ruckus I am exposed to all the time .. quite refreshing.

I just finished listening to the The Butchers & The Builder’s self titled album and I am quite pleased … Mangtoothy likes. They’re a group of musicians who produce sounds that are mixture of folk, gospel, and a little bit of punk just for good measure. The best way I came up to describe them would be for you to take the Decemberists with their large range of instruments and lyrical content dealing with pirates, fisherman, and wenches .. tossing all that into a time machine and setting the dial to the 1849 Gold Rush in California .. this combination of strange events would result in THE BUTCHERS & THE BUILDERS .. The band describes themselves on their myspace as ” singing and shouting with guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, accordian, drums, xylophone, bells, and washboard.” .. if this sounds like something you’re into then sink your teeth into these live videos …
Go pick up the album .. its on itunes
P.S. I just found out they opened up for the Decemberists on one of their tours .. sooo take that!
