Neil Young is Crazy
January 23, 2009
So apparently Neil Young’s next release is going to be a concept album about electric cars entitled Fork in the Road (the song for which the album was named has previously been posted by Jake).
Other completed tracks are reportedly titled, “Cough Up the Bucks”, “Fuel Line”, “Hit the Road” and “Get Around”.
Do we really need a Neil Young album about electric cars? Wouldn’t a NYT editorial about cover it. Will the album sounds like a bizzaro early 1960′s surf record about a “cherry red ride”?
Who writes a whole album dedicated to electric cars (although for some reason I think this subject matter would make a really good Flaming Lips EP)?
Neil Young does whatever he wants…he also may be insane.

I’m going to play devils advocate on this one. Hasn’t Neil earned our trust. The man doesn’t put out horrible music, although its not always outstanding. Also, why judge a book by its cover? While the concept may be in insane we have no idea how it will sound and thats important. Furthermore I wouldn’t trust pitchfork. It’s not exactly the haven of respected journalism. Far to often they interject their own opinions into simple news pieces. I’m all for a personal touch, but that piece is extremely judgmental for an album they haven’t heard.
Dude is nuts and the concept is a little much though.
the article originated from the village voice, just to add additional credibility.
i don’t know man. Neil Young has made some music i really don’t like. Normally that happens when he reaches too far and finds himself making batshit crazy album, like with Trans and Everybody’s Rockin’, or the song Let’s Impeach the President.
electric cars man. I am going to be sick of the subject matter after song 2. I think concept records need a pretty large idea in order to work. For example one of my fav concept albums is Deltron 3030. It works bc Del doesn’t tackle one idea, he has a whole galaxy to play with in the year 3030. It’s sprawling. Electric cars seem too small in scope and specific…and fucking weird.
